I heard about Mac from a lady who was
looking to re-home him for one of her clients. She had one or
two Beardies herself in the past, which she used for obedience
and agility exercises. She, therefore, knew the breed of dog
regarding Mac. After enquiring about any advice that a friend of
hers could give her regarding working Beardies, she was given my
name and phone number. She contacted me and explained her
situation, and on telling me who actually bred Mac, I
immediately knew how he was bred, and became interested in
getting him. The result was that she traveled to Wales with two
friends and met me en route. I took these ladies to a farm just
down the road from where I lived. Here, I showed how I worked my
dogs. They were pleased with what they saw, and Mac became
another resident at my home.
Although he had not previously had any connection with
livestock, he did have natural ability. He was
approximately four years of age when he came to live in Wales.
He has sired about eighty pups for myself and visitors bringing
bitches to him. They have been very good quality pups. Two
of the pups were exported to America.
Mac was recently re-homed into England for
retirement.
Mac gained some recognition when he was
photographed for an article in the Daily Post newspaper, dated
February 18, 2003, under the "Farm & Country" section. The
name of the story was "A real shaggy dog story." I have to
admit, in that particular photo, due to the angle of the camera
lens, Mac looked like a giant dog. That was because I was
in a ditch some distance behind him. So when looking at
the picture of the two of us, he resembled a VERY large Beardie,
which he definitely was not. But I would not be surprised
about a few comments like "wow, look at THAT Beardie's size."
This photo was taken a couple of years ago.
The copy I received was in poor resolution. But one can
see his outline, and that he carried a good deal of coat.
